When the new layer is made from the resample, the scripting interface fails to capture a) changing layers and b) deleting the layer with the original object. For instance, if the original mesh is resampled, the resampled mesh may be saved ("Offset mesh" layer). This is with 1.34BETA on 64 bit Windows here. Are you seeing one of a kind behavior?
