Webcamoid is a full-featured and multiplatform webcam suite. Cross-platform (GNU/Linux, Mac, Windows) Take pictures and record videos with the webcam. Manages multiple webcams. Written in C++ and Qt. Capture from desktop, with many recording formats. Virtual webcam support for feeding other programs. Creates some interfaces that other programs can detect and interact with as if they were real webcam hardware, creating fake device nodes. Creating a virtual webcam may involve in most cases very low-level system access, and that depends on how much the operating system allows software developers to have access to the lower level. Webcamoid gives to option to use either akvcam or v4l2loopback as the virtual camera driver, akvcam is the preferred driver which offers more options and compatibility.
